Srinagar : The victory of Barack Obama as the next president of the United States Wednesday was welcomed by Kashmiri leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
“We welcome Obama’s election to the US presidency,” the Mirwaiz told reporters.
“His recent statement that he intended to involve former president Bill Cinton in the resolution of the Kashmir dispute is a positive development,” said the chairman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference.
Obama in an interview to Joe Klein of Time newsmagazine had said he might consider the appointment of the former US president Bill Clinton as a special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir since, according to Obama, Clinton knew the South Asian situation very well.
