Cabinet approves 110 mw power plant in Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi : The north-east region will have a new power plant, with the cabinet Thursday approving a 110 MW hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh.

An official statement said the cabinet committee on economic affairs approved the Pare Hydro Electric Project, to be set up by North Eastern Electric Power Corp at an estimated investment of Rs.5.7 billion.

The project will be financed with Rs.1.7 billion coming from the central government, and a debt of Rs.4 billion. The cost also includes interest during construction and financing charges of Rs.680 million at June 2007 price level.

The hydropower project, to be commissioned in 44 months, will cater to the north-eastern states, especially Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

The generated power will be distributed through the existing transmission system of the Ranganadi hydro electric project.
