Ranchi : Thirteen coaches of a goods train derailed in Dhanbad railway division of Jharkhand early Wednesday morning, police said.
According to police, a goods train was going to Gaya from Dhanbad. At 5.30 a.m., the 13 coaches derailed between Pichaki and Hazaribagh railway stations, around 210 km from state capital Ranchi.
The derailment has affected railway services in the Grand Cord section.
According to railway authorities, six trains have been diverted and one local passenger train cancelled. Normal services are likely to be resumed by Wednesday evening. The authorities added that they would carry out a probe to find the reason for the derailment.
According to police, primary investigation showed that some fish plates were removed from the rail track. Police officials say that it could be the handiwork of thieves who wanted to sell the iron plates by weight.
