“Manpreet, a resident of Kartarpur village in Mohali district in Punjab, around 20 km from Chandigarh came to us with a bag full of notes. There were bundles of Rs.1000 notes, some keys and an identity card in the bag,” Davinder Singh, investigating officer told IANS.

“After verifying all the details and cross checking every detail we handed over the money to the real owner who resides in Sector 71 here. He had placed the bag on the roof of the car and it fell off from the roof without him realising it,” Singh said.

Manpreet told IANS: “I was returning home after delivering the milk when I saw a black coloured bag lying abandoned on the corner of the main road in Sector 71. I got suspicious on seeing the bag and opened it carefully but to my big surprise the bag was full of notes.”

He added: “I did not touch the notes and immediately took the bag to the nearby police station. The owner of the bag offered me a prize of Rs.2,000 but I took only Rs.1,000 because I had to incur a loss of Rs.1,000 in the whole process because of the wastage of my milk.”
