Iraq, US, Turkish tripartite committee to curb Kurdish party activities

Baghdad : The Iraqi government spokesperson Ali Al-Dabbagh has said that the Iraqi, Turkish and US governments have decided to form a tripartite committee to follow up the issue of Kurdish Labour party threats on the stability and security of Turkey and Iraq.

Al-Dabbagh said in a statement Wednesday that the committee will draw up measures to curb the activities of this party on Iraqi lands or near the Turkish borders.

He said that the Turkish delegation to the meeting of the committee here is headed by the Minister of Interior Besir Atalay.

Al-Dabbagh said that Minister of State for National Security Affairs Shirwan Al-Waili is heading the Iraqi delegation comprising the Minister of Interior for the Kurdish region and officials in the Ministries of Defence and Interior were present.

The US side is headed by Ambassador Ryan Crocker. He was accompanied by several top US army officials in Iraq.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki received the Turkish minister on his arrival in the country.
