New Delhi : The Congress party Monday charged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with trying to “communalise terrorism” to distract people’s attention from the “real issue of its non-performance” in BJP-ruled states going to the polls.
“The BJP is trying to communalise terrorism. It is trying to protect those accused in the Malegaon blasts. The BJP is doing all this as a concerted effort to distract people’s attention from the real issue of its non-performance in the states ruled by BJP,” Manish Tewari, Congress spokesperson, said at a press conference here.
The Congress also targeted Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia in the wake of media reports that he was involved in the formation and funding of Abhinav Bharat, a radical Hindu organisation. It cited alleged confessions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, one of those arrested for the Malegaon blast.
“I think Pravin Togadia was against the narco-test of those accused in the Malegaon blast because he was apprehensive that if the tests are done then the truth will be revealed, as has been now by a newspaper,” Tewari said.
Tewari also said that the high turnout of voters in Jammu and Kashmir showed that people’s faith is being restored in the Indian democracy and this was mainly because of the development works carried out by the Congress-led government in the state.
“People of Kashmir have rejected separatism and negative politics. The high percentage of voters in Jammu and Kashmir shows that people there want constructive politics. This faith has been restored mainly because of the development works done during the Congress-led government in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party,” Tewari said.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 65 percent polling during the second phase of the seven-stage election despite a boycott call by Muslim separatists and the winter chill, officials said.
