At Naples’s San Paolo stadium Sunday, the hosts had three points under their belt until Daniele Conti scored Cagliari’s second equaliser in injury time.

Slovak Marek Hamsik opened the scoring pouncing on a loose ball and firing home a low drive to put Napoli one up on nine minutes.

The hosts seemed able to secure their win as the fast Argentinian Ezequiel Lavezzi had a great drive saved on 18 minutes and Christian Maggio after the break missed a header and an easy drive before Cagliari equalised.

Goalkeeper Gennaro Iezzo made two impressive saves on efforts from cstriker Robert Acquafresca and Conti, but stood no chance when Uruguayan Diego Lopez tapped in from a few metres off.

Lavezzi put his side back in the lead curling home a majestic free kick with five minutes left, but Conti put the final word on a draw that pushed Cagliari three points clear of the drop zone.

Struggling giants Roma continued their recovery from a disastrous start through a 3-0 win over Lecce that still left them 16 points from the top, albeit with a game in hand.

Mirko Vucinic, Brazilian Juan and a final classy lob from captain Francesco Totti sealed a win that followed a morale boosting win in the city derby.

Lazio, the other Rome side, only took a point from their 1-1 draw with visiting Genoa, who had Argentinian Diego Milito on target to beef up his top-scorer tally to 11 goals.

A brace from the talented striker Antonio Cassano helped Sampdoria beat Catania 3-0 and Bernardo Corradi also scored a brace as Reggina stunned Atalanta 3-1.

Bologna and Palermo drew 1-1, while Siena took a home a 2-0 win from bottom side Chievo.
