Vienna : The French European Union (EU) presidency and the United States accused Syria on Friday of concealing nuclear activities.
The meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, which was concluded earlier today, saw a state of division regarding the agency’s Secretary General Mohammad El-Baradei’s report on “suspicious” nuclear activities in Syria.
Member states of the Non Alignment Movement, Arab states, as well as Russia and China urged the UN nuclear watchdog to allow more time for inspectors to verify uranium traces found in the under-construction Syrian al-Kobr nuclear site, which was bombed by Israel last year.
They also called for suspending Israel’s membership in the agency for attacking the nuclear facility without referring to IAEA and for refusing to join the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), as well as not allowing IAEA inspectors to monitor its nuclear installations.
