London : Parmjit Dhanda, an Indian-origin Labour MP who lost his ministerial post in the recent reshuffle of the british cabinet, has written about his disappointment in his personal blog.
The MP from Gloucester was a junior minister for communities and local government.
He blogged: “I received the call that no minister wants to receive. I was told by the Prime Minster that he wanted to move me on to a non-ministerial post.”
He said it “was a disappointment, but ministerial jobs come and go”.
Dhanda lamented the lack of ministers with “Indian roots” in the Gordon Brown cabinet although the prime minister has given a key cabinet office post to Indian-origin ex-banker Shriti Vadera, who is a minister for business, enterprise and regulatory reform.
“One thing I do hope this reshuffle takes into account is the fact that for too long I’ve been the only MP with Indian roots to be serving as a minister. I do hope this will be rectified in the near future,” Dhanda wrote in his blog parmjit.wordpress.com.
The prime minister offered him a role on a select committee which he declined, Dhanda wrote.
“I am now looking forward to having more time for bread and butter causes in Gloucester,” he added.
