New Delhi : It is not here to compete with Indian B-schools. Instead, what America’s Duke University aims to do with its Indian venture is to reach out to entrepreneurs and other professionals aspiring for an MBA degree without leaving their jobs.
Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, one of the well known varsities in the US, Tuesday announced their plans to expand into India with the introduction of two of their management programmes.
Although the exact location has not yet been decided, Delhi will be the place where they will conduct their classes.
“The classes in our campus here will hopefully begin by August 2009. The faculty will be ours and the education that we will offer will give the student an overview of not only the Indian market, but also the global market,” Blair Sheppard, dean of the university said at a press meet in the capital.
Saying that a full time MBA was not on their agenda, Sheppard said that they are targeting 25-30 year olds who are working but want an MBA with an international perspective.
“There will be an advisory board comprising alumnus of the Duke University who will advise us on the strategies in expanding in India. India is one of the fastest growing economies today and therefore expanding our school here was always on the agenda,” he added.
The course will be for a 16-months duration.
