Unification of European, Arab Gulf studies conference to be held in Kuwait

Kuwait : Kuwait will hold a conference on the unification of European and Arab Gulf studies on Saturday under the theme “The Arabian Gulf and Europe: Exchanging Experiences and Evaluating Achievements.” The event will be attended by several academics and officials from both regions, according to a leading academic in the country.

Professor of Political Science and Head of European-Arabian Gulf Studies in Kuwait University (KU) Dr. Haila Hamad Al-Mokaimi said in a statement the two-day conference will be inaugurated by Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.

On behalf of the foreign minister, the opening speech will be delivered by Head of the Europe Department in the Foreign Ministry, Sheikh Ali Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, followed by a speech by the acting Dean of KU’s Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Hussain Al-Ansari.

Sheikh Ali will head day one’s first session assigned for the discussion of the EU’s international policy with debates to be presented by Dr Christian Koch, Dr. Ali Al-Tarah and Dr. Mohammad Salim.

The second session, to be headed by Yousif Al-Ibrahim, will evaluate Arab Gulf state’s experiences in economic and social integration with debates delivered by businessman and entrepreneur Anwar Bukhamseen and economist Kamil Al-Harmi.

Session one on day two will discuss the current global financial crisis’ effects on Europe and the Arabian Gulf with debates to be delivered by Dr. Abdulretha Aseeri, Dr. Shafeeq Al-Ghabra and Abdulmajid Al-Shatti.

The concluding session will discuss Euro-Arab Gulf relations with debates presented by Dr. Saad Bin Tefla, Dr. Khaldoun Al-Naqib and Dr Dr. Abdullah Baboud.
