Ahmedabad blast accused remanded to further police custody

Ahmedabad : The 10 suspected Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists, including mastermind Mufti Abu Bashir, held for the serial bombings here were Monday remanded to further 14 days of police custody.

The accused were produced before the metropolitan magistrate Sunday afternoon after their 14-day remand got over and the magistrate-in-urgent charge, J.K. Pandya, had sent them to 24-hour judicial custody.

After the end of their judicial custody, they were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate G.M. Patel Monday afternoon who sent them to police custody till Sep 15.

The accused are Bashir, held from Lucknow, Zahid Shaikh, Samshuddin Shaikh, Gyasuddin Ansari, Mohammed Arif Kadgi, Yunus Mansuri from Ahmedabad, Imran Shaikh, Iqbal Shaikh, Mohammed Usman Agarbattiwala from Vadodara and Sajid Mansuri from Surat.

There are 16 complaints registered against them at different police stations of the city for the serial blasts of July 26, which claimed 56 lives.
