Tehran : Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force Nour-Ali Shoushtari said on Saturday that Iran’s new long-range missiles have deterred potential enemy attack, Iran’s English-language Press TV satellite channel reported.
“The progress that has been made in developing military equipment, weaponry and long-range missiles has added to our ability to prevent an enemy attack,” Shoushtari was quoted as saying.
Iran’s new long-range missiles have strengthened the country’s defensive force, he said, adding that “today, the enemy does not dare to attack Iran, as it knows that it will receive fatal blows from Iran if it ventures into such a stupid act.”
Iran’s Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi said on Tuesday that the Iranian Air Force would hold maneuvers dubbed Modafean-e Aseman (Defenders of Sky) during the holy month of Ramadan which started on Tuesday in the country.
The IRGC completed military maneuvers in the Gulf called Payambar-e Azam 3 (Great Prophet 3) in mid-July to improve combat readiness and capability. Iran also successfully test fired new long- and medium-range missiles in the drills.
The drills were held shortly after Israel purportedly conducted an air maneuver over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece in early June in what was considered as preparation for a war against Iran.
The United States and its allies have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied the U.S. charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
In August, Ahmad Miqani, the then commander of Iran’s air force, announced that the country had revamped its fighter jet fleet to fly 3,000 km without refueling.
