New Delhi : US President George Bush Saturday called up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the next steps to complete the nuclear deal soon after the Nuclear Suppliers Group rewrote its rules to allow global nuclear trade with New Delhi.
Manmohan Singh thanked Bush for the US’ “untiring efforts” in getting a clean waiver for India at the NSG and in persuading sceptics in the nuclear cartel to back the nuclear deal.
Bush also assured Manmohan Singh about getting Congressional approval for the 123 bilateral civil nuclear cooperation pact, official sources said.
The US Congress is likely to consider the 123 pact for its approval when it meets Sep 8. The approval is expected in the last session of the Congress, before the November presidential elections.
Manmohan Singh and Bush are likely to sign the 123 pact when the two leaders meet in Washington towards the end of this month.
