Colombo : Sri Lanka’s cricket governing body, which has been administered by an interim committees and hit by many controversies over the past three years, is set to face an election in two months, a media report here said Sunday.
“Elections will be held to the Cricket Board in about two months time,” the state-run Sunday Observer newspaper has quoted Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge as saying.
The last elected body of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was dissolved by then sports minister Jeevan Kumaratunga in March 2005 on several charges, including misappropriation of funds, although the game of cricket was on a growth trajectory at the international level.
The SLC is presently headed by former world-cup winning cricket team captain Arjuna Ranatunga.
It is not immediately known whether holding an election for the SLC in two months would be possible as there was a court case still pending, involving previous administrators of the SLC.
Insiders say that its immediate past chairman, Jayantha Dharmadasa, would contest the poll if there is an election at any given time.
