Extension of Arab gas pipeline to link to European gas pipeline

Cairo : Oil and Energy Ministers of Syria, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon have agreed to start promotion and extension of the Arab gas pipeline to link it to the European gas pipeline after the completion of the four stages of the projects which extends from Egypt to Syria and Jordan.

Building the networks for carrying the gas from Syria to Turkey is underway as part of the first Arab regional gas grid that links up to the European network to help diversify the sources of energy in Europe.

Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sufian al-Allaw said at the end of talks with his fellow Arab ministers Monday that the Egyptian gas is now arriving in the Syrian cities down to Homs City, adding that the gas line extending up to the Turkish borders is under completion.

The ministers also discussed the executive stages to extend the Egyptian gas to Lebanon via Syria.

The investments to build the 1,000-km long gas pipeline extending from the Egyptian city of al-Arish to Homs in Syria exceeded USD 800 million.
