The visit comes amid tensions between the two countries after the recent missile attacks by US drones targetting militants inside Pakistani territory that killed scores of people.

Mullen will hold meetings with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to discuss the security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the News Network International (NNI) news agency said.

Mullen earlier warned that the US forces would launch unilateral operations in Pakistan’s tribal areas against Al Qaeda linked militants.
