Brussels : Brussels-based Europe India Chamber of Commerce is organising a two-day pharma roundtable in the Belgian capital starting Sunday, with the participation of over 70 pharmaceutical companies from Europe and India.
Speaking to EuAsiaNews, chamber secretary general Sunil Prasad said the roundtable was the first of its kind being organised here and would bring together leading drug manufacturers from India and Europe.
The event will address the specific issues and factors, including regulatory framework that hinders market access opportunities of the pharmaceutical products of Indian drug makers into Europe.
Indian Ambassador to the European Union Jaimini Bhagwati, member of European parliament Christian Ehler, EU officials and international experts on intellectual property rights would attend the event.
“This high level meeting is a unique opportunity for Indian companies to raise any pharma related issues, which in their view are barriers to closer business cooperation between India and Europe,” Prasad said.
The roundtable will provide the drug manufacturers an opportunity to discuss implementation strategies on a range of compliance issues which still afflict the industry.
One of the area of strong interest for the European side is the cross border mergers and acquisitions as Indian pharma companies have been very active in acquiring companies in Europe.
Outbound investments in pharma from India were more than inbound last year and many emerging companies in Europe could be potential targets of acquisition by the Indian firms.
