Kathmandu : At least 45 people have been killed and 35 reported missing in landslides and rain-related incidents in Nepal’s western region, media reported Monday.
Twenty six people have died in Kailali, 10 in Kanchanpur, six in Doti, one each in Bajhang, Dadeldurra and Darchula districts, the Himalayan Times reported quoting sources in the regional police headquarters.
Authorities called in the army to assist the civil administration in relief and rescue operations, the paper said.
Around 4,000 people have been displaced in Kailali in the wake of the rain and landslides which also derailed road transport across the region, it said.
The Central Natural Disaster Management Committee Sunday allocated 10 million Nepali rupees ($135,000) for relief and rescue operations in the region.
