New Delhi : The Supreme Court Friday issued notices to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the state assembly secretariat on a petition by former chief minister Amarinder Singh, challenging his expulsion from the assembly Sep 11 for his alleged involvement in a multi-million-rupee land scam.
A bench of Justices S.B. Sinha and C. Joseph also issued notices to the state vigilance bureau and Attorney General of India Milind Banerjee, seeking their responses to the lawsuit.
The bench referred Amarinder Singh’s petition to a larger three judge bench for detailed hearing later.
Amarinder Singh was earlier this month expelled from the Punjab assembly after a probe by a house committee found him, his ministers and others involved in favouring a private builder over allotment of 32 acres of prime land worth millions of rupees in Amritsar city in 2004.
The former chief minister, elected from the Patiala assembly constituency, was expelled from the assembly for the remaining three-and-a-half year term of the present assembly.
