Sources close to the chief minister said that the party high command has asked Modi to remain focussed for a while on the assembly segments under the Gandhinagar constituency, from where Advani is contesting for the fifth time in a row.

Advani is expected to file his nomination papers April 6 which, the sources say, is also the day when he would launch his campaign tours beginning with Kalol – which is currently represented in the state assembly by his Congress rival Suresh Patel.

Advani will campaign in the assembly segments of Kalol, Sanand, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Naranpura and Sabarmati and Gandhinagar (north and south) during his next trip, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the state BJP unit Friday assigned specific duties to the poll publicity managers for the Gandhinagar constituency to start public contact programmes to inform the voters about the party’s developmental agenda for Gandhinagar seat.

These publicity managers will also go to people to offer clarifications on any remarks rivals make in public forums against Advani during their campaigns.

The BJP’s Gujarat unit president Purshottam Rupala is, meanwhile, touring the tribal belts of north and south Gujarat for the past one week.
