Singh filed his nomination papers through a representative Tuesday from Hussainabad assembly seat on a National Congress Party (NCP) ticket and his wife Madhu Singh filed her papers as an independent candidate for the same seat.

Kamlesh Singh was Tuesday produced in a vigilance court and sent to 14 days judicial custody.

“if Kamlesh Singh’s nomination is cancelled on technical grounds then Madhu Singh will be allotted the NCP symbol,” said a close associate of Singh.

Singh was arrested from Hussainabad Monday after a court issued an arrest warrant against him. He was brought to Ranchi Monday night.

On Tuesday, the vigilance court of Vinay Kant Khan sent the former minister to judicial custody. But it allowed him to file his nomination paper for the assembly elections.

The vigilance bureau had lodged a first information report (FIR) against Koda and three former cabinet colleagues – Kamlesh Singh, Bhanu Pratap Sahi and Bandhu Tirkey – July 22. The charges against them include siphoning government money, cheating, amassing assets beyond their known sources of income and misusing their official positions.

Kamlesh Singh was the water resources and excise department minister from March 2005 to January 2008.
