Party general secretary Amar Singh said Sunday that cases against Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi were withdrawn based on the advice of the solicitor general but the advice of the attorney general in a case against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had been ignored.

“It is not Central Bureau of Investigation but Congress Bureau of Investigation,” he said.

The Supreme Court is hearing a corruption case against Mulayam Singh.

Amar Singh said he was not against withdrawal of cases against Quattrochhi but the government had adopted a different yardstick in case of Mulayam Singh. He also alleged that attempts were being made to target actor-turned politician Sanjay Dutt by reopening some old cases.

Amar Singh also said there had also been a delay in getting vacated the house allotted to Mulayam Singh.

“Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar has so far not vacated the house allotted to Mr Yadav and Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy has expressed his helplessness,” Amar Singh said.

He said former Congress MP Begum Noor Bano had been allowed to stay in her official premises longer than her entitlement but party MP Jaya Prada had not been allotted a house even though she was close to completing her term as a Rajya Sabha member.
