New Delhi: The capital Monday reported only one new case of dengue. Health department officials said the number of cases of the mosquito-borne disease has dropped because of the dipping mercury level.
“On Monday, Delhi reported just one new case of dengue. The fall in the number of such cases is because of the lower temperatures. The breeding of the carrier mosquito cannot occur below 15 degrees Celsius,” a health department official told IANS.
The minimum temperature recorded Monday was 12 degree Celsius.
With Monday’s fresh case, the tally of those affected by dengue in the city has risen to 1,126, the official added.
Of the total affected, 15 patients are from outside Delhi.
Three people have died due to the disease this year in Delhi – two boys aged 15 and 10 and a 45-year-old man.
Last year, the capital reported two dengue deaths and a total of 1,312 cases.
