“Political parties have to play their role in running the country. It is not their job to build mosques and temples. That is for religious to do,” Tariq Anwar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said while participating in a short duration discussion on the Liberhan Commission report on the Dec 6, 1992, demolition of the Babri Masjid.

“We need to have a broader vision for the country. We have to deal with a number of challenges,” he added.

“Resolve the dispute amicably or expeditiously in a court of law,” Ali Anwar Ansari of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) contended.

“We do not need sympathy. After the demolition, we want uniformity (before the law),” he said, and added that those responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid should be be brought to book – a point that Anwar also made.
