Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh’s much-awaited tiger census has been postponed to February 2010 due to upcoming Panchayat elections, an official said Thursday.
The census was originally scheduled to be held from Jan 18 to 23. But now it would be undertaken Feb 10-16, chief conservator of forest Shivendu Srivastava said.
The Wildlife Institute of India conducted an intensive tiger census at the Pannar Tiger Reserve November 2008-June 2009 only to discover a solitary tiger. That too disappeared later.
