Melbourne : Top seed and world number one Rafael Nadal from Spain Sunday won the Australian Open, beating three-time champion Roger Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in the final.
It was Nadal’s second consecutive five-set match at the Open after beating Fernando Verdasco in five sets in Friday’s semi-final.
Nadal’s victory denied Switzerland’s Federer a record-equalling 14th Grand Slam title and takes Nadal’s Grand Slam titles to six.
