Mumbai : Indian markets fell at the opening bell Monday, with a key index starting lower than its last closing figure.
The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 9,363.58 points, 61 points lower than its close of 9,424.24 points Friday. After about 10 minutes of trading, it had fallen further to 9,292.29 points, 1.4 percent or 131.95 points below its previous close.
At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 2,823.9 points, 1.77 percent down from its last close of 2,874.8.
The BSE midcap index was up 0.07 percent from its previous close, while the BSE smallcap index was ruling 0.09 percent higher.
