Five Afghan policemen killed in landmine blast

KABUL : Five Afghan policemen were killed as a roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle in southern Afghanistan, police said on Thursday.

Those killed in the blast were the security guards of the governor of Musa Qala district of Afghanistan’s volatile province of Helmand.

Police said the blast took place on Wednesday afternoon when the guards were on patrol in their pick-up truck.

Mullah Salam, governor of the Musa Qala district, was not hurt in the attack.

The district governor had escaped an attack on his convoy by Taliban last month.

Musa Qala district was under the Taliban control till 2007. The district was recaptured following a joint operation by the British and Afghan troops that year.(end) gk.wsa KUNA 051138 Feb 09NNNN
