The theft occurred Tuesday night, the Belgian RTL TV station reported. Attackers also stole a large batch of dog food.

The incident took place in Hasselt, the capital of the Flemish province of Limburg.

“We are speaking about puppies who cannot survive without special nutrition,” the TV station quoted the shop manager as saying.

Chihuahuas are one of the most popular breeds in Belgium, worth over 1,000 euros each.
