CPI-M targeting West Bengal’s minority communities: Mamata

Kolkata : West Bengal’s principal opposition Trinamool Congress Friday alleged that ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) cadres, armed with weapons, were targeting the minorities in villages across the state.

“The CPI-M cadres are constantly indulging in organised violence in a number of villages, mainly minority populated areas, in the state. They are threatening people with deadly weapons and firearms. Six of our supporters received bullet injuries at Chandrakona village in Ghatal subdivision of West Midnapore yesterday (Thursday) night,” Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said.

She said that CPI-M cadres carried out operations at various areas of Birbhum district, in Lalgarh and Chandrakona villages in West Midnapore district and in Burdwan district.

“The CPI-M is just triggering state-sponsored terrorism across West Bengal before the Lok Sabha polls. They are torturing people with the help of police. They are going from village to village and the state police force is only a mute spectator.

Talking about the voters’ list in the state, Banerjee said what was being prepared was full of errors.

“A team led by (Trinamool Congress general secretary) Mukul Roy has already informed the EC (Election Commission) in New Delhi about the problem we’re facing with the voters’ list,” she said.
