Sarkozy holds talks with Hariri in Paris prior to tour of Middle East Monday

Paris : French President Nicolas Sarkozy will hold a round of talks here Saturday with Lebanese MP Saad Hariri, who leads the “Future Movement” in Lebanon, the Elysee Palace said in a statement.

The talks take place with the backdrop of a visit to the region by the French leader next week, when we will hold talks in Egypt, Israel, the Palestinian territories, Syria and also Lebanon.

Sarkozy’s office said Friday that the meeting with Hariri is destined to discuss bilateral relations between France and Lebanon, but also “the principal regional files.”

Arab sources indicated here that Sarkozy and Lebanese President Michel Suleiman are also due to discuss in the coming days a visit to France by the Lebanese leader, probably sometime in March.

Suleiman’s visit here could be finalised during the French president’s whistle-stop tour to the region, beginning Monday.
