Delhi Police get transit remand of terror suspect

Lucknow : Delhi Police Saturday obtained from a Lucknow court a two-day transit remand of a suspected Indian Mujahideen member who is an accused in the Sep 13 serial bombings in the national capital, officials said.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Suresh Chandra granted the transit remand when Hakim was produced before the court Saturday, the police said.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Delhi Police will now produce Hakim before a court in the national capital for taking him into custody for interrogationn.

Though Hakim was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS Friday evening in Lucknow, the police officially confirmed the arrest only Saturday.

“Hakim was arrested Friday evening from the Gudamba locality in Lucknow,” Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

Hakim was wanted for his alleged involvement in the Delhi bombings, he added.

According to ATS sources, Hakim is also believed to be involved in last year’s bomb blasts in Gujarat and Mumbai.

Hakim, who belongs to the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested when he came to Lucknow to appear in an examination of an engineering institute, the police said.
