Decision on Soren after discussion with allies: Congress

New Delhi : The Congress Friday said that the decision on the fate of Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who lost a crucial by-election, would be taken after consultation with its allies in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

“It is the people’s verdict which should be respected. The future course of action would be decided in a day or two after consultation with UPA allies,” party spokesman Shakeel Ahmad told reporters.

Soren, chief of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), lost the Tamar assembly by-poll by 9,062 votes to Jharkhand Party candidate Raja Peter. Having taken over as chief minister Aug 27 last year, Soren needed to become member of the state legislature within six months, according to a constitutional obligation.
