Ranchi : Political crisis in Jharkhand continued Wednesay, even as outgoing Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who lost a key by-election recently forcing him to step down, was recuperating in a hospital.
Soren, who quit Monday after his defeat in the Tamar by-assembly election last week, was Tuesday admitted to hospital after he complained of chest pain.
According to doctors, Soren’s was suffering from high blood pressure and exertion. No serious ailment was diagnosed in medical examination reports.
Soren has been asked by Governor Syed Sibte Razi to continue till further arrangements are made.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief, who became chief minister in August 2008, needed to be elected to the state assembly by Feb 27 under constitutional requirements. But he lost the key by-election plunging the state into a political crisis.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) leaders from the state left for New Delhi Wednesday to seek a solution to the crisis.
The leaders who left for Delhi include former deputy chief minister Stephen Marandi and some Congress leaders. State Congress president Pradeep Balmuchu is already camping in the national capital and has met senior party leaders.
The JMM is sticking to its demand to have party nominee Champai Soren made the next chief minister, even as the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reiterated its demand for president’s rule in the state.
“Governor should send a report to the central government to impose president’s rule in the state,” former chief minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda told IANS.
“Congress is making mockery of the people’s verdict by lingering on the political crisis,” he said.
State Congress spokesperson Alok Dubey said: “An amicable solution will come out in two to three days.”
Assembly Speaker Aalamgir Aalam and Jharkhand Party president Enos Ekka met the governor Wednesday to discuss the political scenario.
