Siliguri : A member of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist, arrested Thursday night from near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, was Friday sent to police custody for 14 days.
“We had arrested him (the Maoist) from Baksirhat police station area last night,” Debaprakash Singh, superintendent of police of Cooch Behar district, told reporters.
The police are suspecting that the arrested rebel was in contact with the extremist groups in other neighbouring states.
The police have recovered some Maoist literature from the Maoist rebel, who admitted to have undergone arms training in 2006-07 in Jharkhand, Singh said.
The police have informed their Jharkhand counterparts of the arrest and a team would arrive soon to interrogate him, Singh added.
