Noida: A man and his wife from Delhi, married for seven years and with two children, were Monday found hanging from an electric pole and a tree respectively along a street in Noida, police said.
Police said they were not sure if it was suicide or murder because the bodies bore injury marks. They said they were awaiting the autopsy report.
The bodies of Pappu Katiyar of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh and his wife Chatto, originally from Kolkata, were noticed in the morning by passers-by in Noida township’s Sector 15A adjoining the national capital.
The couple lived in New Delhi after their marriage in 2002. Their two kids are with their maternal grandfather in the capital’s Khan Market area.
Police said the couple had a strained relationship and had filed for divorce. Chatto was hanging from the tree by a red sari. Her husband, a driver, was hanging from a nearby electric pole.
“It is still a mystery,” said Noida district police chief Ashok Kumar. “We cannot claim suicide… nor are we in a position to say it is murder.”
