Srinagar : An army officer, a soldier and three separatist guerrillas were killed in a gunbattle in north Kashmir’s frontier Kupwara district, officials said Monday.
Spokesman of the army’s 15 Corps, Lt Col J.S. Brar told IANS here Monday that security forces on specific information surrounded the Gulabbowl area near Hatmullah Saturday.
“During the search, the terrorists who were hiding, opened fire at the troops killing an army major and a soldier,” Brar said.
The troops retaliated and engaged the guerrillas in a gunbattle, the official said.
“Three terrorists were killed… the troops are now busy searching the area,” Brar added.
Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the gunbattle site.
