Mumbai: A delegation comprising of the State Minority Affairs Minister Anees Ahmad, former minister Baba Siddiqi and Maulana Azad Minorities Financial Development Corporation (MAMFDC)’s Ameen Patel met on Monday the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan in Vidhan Bhavan and gave a memorandum to him demanding that loans of the MAMFDC be forgiven.
The Maharashtra government has forgiven (/waiver) loans worth Rs 1100 crore, of many financial corporations including Jyotiba Phule Corporation, in this year’s budget
The delegation demanded that like those corporations MAMFDC loans also should be forgiven. ‘MAMFDC has come up with better performance than other corporations. The loans which riot-affected ones took from MAMFDC should be forgiven,’ Baba Siddiqi reportedly asked.
Ameen Patel told that some of the loan holders are paying back while some others are not in the condition to pay back the loans. ‘Therefore,’ he requested ‘the MAMFDC loans should be forgiven.’
The chief minister Ashok Chavan said that the conditions for deserving the loans from MAMFDC and the economical status of loan holders- whether or not they can pay back- will be analyzed and then the loans of those not in the condition to pay back will be forgiven. He added that the state government is bound to give all possible facilities to the poor.
