At around 1 p.m. the assailants knocked the door of Satwant Kaur’s Greater Kailash-I home. Kaur was alone in the house at the time, police said.

When Kaur opened the door, the assailants barged into the house. “They first attacked her, probably with an iron rod and then tied her hands and legs. The robbers then ransacked the house before fleeing,” said an investigating police officer.

The police said the incident came to light when a washerman, who visits the house around 4-5 p.m. everyday to pick up clothes, saw the gates of the house open. He went inside the house around 4.30 p.m. and saw Kaur lying on the floor unconscious with her hands and legs tied.

The washerman then called Kaur’s son Harwinder Pal Singh Bhandari and told him about the incident. Bhandari then called up his nephew Ramnik Singh, who stays close to his house, and asked him to check on his mother.

“I immediately rushed to check on my maternal grandmother and found her unconscious. The house was open and ransacked,” Singh said.

“We took her to a nursing home nearby where she has gained consciousness and is recovering. The house has been ransacked but we are yet to ascertain how much cash and jewellery has been taken by the robbers,” Singh added.

The police was informed around 5.30 p.m. about the incident.

According to police, the family suspect the people who were to come to their house from the Tughlakabad area for the servicing their air-conditioner.
