Sinha, in Ranchi, refused to speak to mediapersons on this issue, saying: “I do not want to talk about it.” But party sources in the Jharkhand capital said he had faxed his resignation letter to Rajnath Singh.

In New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Sreekant Sharma told IANS: “Rajnath Singh has accepted Yashwant Sinha’s resignation.”

The former finance and external affairs minister, who was last month elected to the Lok Sabha from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, has reportedly sought reconstitution of the party in the aftermath of its drubbing in elections.

In his five-page resignation letter, according to party sources, Sinha has said the responsibility for the election loss should be fixed.

He has also noted that veteran L.K. Advani should not have become the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha again, according to the sources.
