On Saturday violence broke out at one of the centres, where the application forms were distributed, after the officials threw the forms at the candidates from the upper floor of the building.

The police, who were called in by the authorities to control the situation, had to resort to baton-charge to control the situation, the report said.

Officials said the situation got worse due to the high turnout of candidates for the walk-in interviews. More than 2,000 candidates had come for the interviews at the centre where the violence occured, an official said.

He said six centres were set up for the walk-in interviews in different part of the city to fill in vacant posts of teachers.
