By IRNA,
Tehran : Visiting Energy Minister of Russia Sergei Shmatko said on Tuesday that Tehran and Moscow enjoyed a bright future for bilateral cooperation on gas exports.
Speaking to reporters at the end of a meeting with Iran’s Oil Minister Gholamhossein Nozari, the Russian minister said the two stressed the need for promotion of bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, particularly gas exports.
Shmatkov said that Moscow could play an effective role in marketing Iranian gas in Europe as “Russia enjoys a good and effective position in the European gas market.”
Shmatkov said that he suggested, in his talks with Nozari, the “establishment of a joint oil bourse by Iran and Russia,” in order to “form a regional market for oil trade as many of the oil producing countries are currently seeking different markets for their crude oil”.
Shmatkov said he told Nozari that Moscow was willing to “sell Iran’s oil at the St. Petersburg bourse.”
he added that the Iranian minister promised to review the proposal later with the ministry officials.
