Raipur : Chhattisgarh has heightened security along railway tracks in Maoist-hit districts following recent attacks by the rebels on rail facilities in Orissa and Bihar, police said Monday.
“Security at rail tracks and railway stations has been tightened after the attacks by Maoists on rail facilities in neighbouring Orissa and Bihar states,” Pawan Deo, deputy inspector general at the police headquarters here, told IANS.
Vigil has been specially stepped along the Mumbai-Howrah rail line in the state, mainly in the restive Rajnandgaon district that shares a border with Maharashtra’s Maoist-hit Gadchiroli district.
Special attention is also being paid to the rail tracks on the Kottavalasa-Kirandul line in the state’s insurgency-hit southern Dantewada district.
The line, spread across Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Chhattisgarh, is used for transporting iron ore from Dantewada’s Bailadila mines to port city Visakhapatnam.
Dozens of Maoists had blown up a railway station in Orissa’s Sundergarh district Saturday, while a rail track in Bihar was targetted the following day.
