Retired judge in police trouble over housemaid

Ghaziabad : Police are in a quandary after a retired district judge was accused of employing a 12-year-old girl as a house maid and for allegedly confining her illegally. The judge in turn has filed a police complaint against the girl for stealing money from his house, police said Friday.

The girl’s father, Jai Dev, said his daughter had not returned for the last two days and when he went to the judge’s house in Mohan Nagar, the judge accosted him by accusing the girl of having stolen Rs.100,000 from the house. Jai Dev then filed a complaint with the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Happy Guptan said: “Medical examination of the child is being conducted. The judge has also lodged a complaint against the child for stealing money from the house. A case under the Child Labour Act has been registered against the retired judge.”
