New Delhi: A three-day training workshop for para-legal social activists organized by Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) began yesterday in Lucknow. The workshop is covering almost every important theoretical and practical aspect of civil and human rights in India.
The workshop is focused on the ways and means of ensuring civil and human rights of each every citizen of India. Introducing the workshop, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Director, Training Division, APCR said, the situation demands the creation of a comprehensive movement aimed at restoring the rights of the people and identifying the issues in the national scenario and make sustained remedial efforts. Primarily the masses have to be educated about the realities, and rights and obligations as well as about the prevailing legal structure. To achieve the above mentioned goal, a team of committed people needs to be developed to educate the public and organize them to effectively safeguard their rights. Through these kinds of workshops, we aim to build a nationwide network of such committed people and activists, he added.
Dr. Mohammad Ahmad, president, JIH, UP West, while welcoming the participants of the workshop said: “it is our Islamic duty to strive for the establishment of justice and equity in our society. Hence, we should come forward to fight against all kinds of injustice and try to ensure the rights of each and every citizen of India,” he appealed.
In this workshop a wide variety of issues and subjects ranging from civil and human rights violations in India, nature and functions of different commissions in India, anti-terror laws and human rights, powers and functions of police and investigating agencies, people’s resistance of civil and human rights violations: a case study of Azamgarh, are to be covered.
Among the resource persons who will be training the activists are Dr. Sandip Pandey, Mr. S R Darapuri, and Mrs. Shahnaz Sidrat besides APCR’s own resource persons like Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Mr. A R Agwan, Mr. M. Khalid and Mr. Mahtab Alam. As follow-up program, different assignments to be given to the participants include practical as well as theoretical works. Around 50 activists from different parts of UP are participating in the workshop.
