The delegation will visit Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) and will be given an overview of the HIPER Laser Fusion Project.

They will also tour Diamond and attend a reception hosted by Lord O’Neill, chairman of the Nuclear Industries Association at the Royal Academy of Engineering where Kakodkar will deliver a lecture on ‘The Thorium Cycle and Clean Energy’, Indian official media reported.

The group will also meet representatives of British companies and also visit Imperial College London to hold discussions with Chief Scientific Advisor John Beddington.

The visit is significant as it follows the recent 123 agreement and is expected to re-invigorate the UK-India bilateral relationship in this important area.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown had pitched for a multilateral system to help non-nuclear states acquire new sources of energy.
