“We do believe that a strong message has to be sent – no hate speech against the minorities will be tolerated – and believe that this important message has been sent (in Gandhi’s case),” CPI-M politburo member Brinda Karat told reporters here.

The Mayawati government Sunday invoked the NSA against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Pilibhit for his reported hate speeches and the mob violence during his arrest Saturday.

Without naming Gandhi, Karat also said that the case was a special one as the “individual” was “unapologetic.”
