New Delhi : Poll officials were hopeful that more residents of the capital would come out and vote in large numbers Thursday with the mercury at 38 degrees Celsius around noon, three notches below the average maximum for this time of the year.
According to the meteorological department, the minimum temperature will hover around 24.8 degrees Celsius. The decline in temperature has been due to showers in the capital in the past few days.
“The absence of a heat wave will provide some respite to Delhiites but there won’t be any showers,” a met official said.
“It is not very hot today so we expect a lot of people to turn up. Covered waiting areas and water have been made available at all the polling stations,” Delhi Election Commission chief Satbir Silas Bedi told IANS.
A heat wave in parts of India last week lowered voter turnout during the third phase of the five phase of the general elections.
