“In polling station numbers 64 and 64 A, the assistant returning officer told me that the voter turnout was 98.5 percent on Thursday. Upon inspecting closely, we found that the voter turnout for males in these polling stations was 100 percent,” said an Election Commission official.

The poll panel observed “duplicate polling” in the booths Thursday and ordered re-polling.

The official said that 38 voters had cast their votes in both 64 and 64A polling station. While polling booth 64 had 718 listed voters, 908 people were eligible to cast their vote at 64A.

Voting began at 7 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m.

“We have informed the returning officer of the area and asked him to inform every voter in the area about the re-polling. We are hoping for fair voting this time,” the official said.

The poll panel has ordered an inquiry into the “duplicate voting” and has suspended 10 election officials who were present on duty.
